Instant Gratification

Image
The world is at your fingertips. In 2018, you can have your groceries delivered to your doorstep within a few hours, you don't have to leave your couch to order the next book in a series you're dying to read. You can find out who that actor is in the movie you're watching (you know you know him, you just can't place him) by just pulling out you phone and doing a quick search. "Millennials are over exposed to dopamine through the use of social media" (Divnomics, 2017). You live for instant gratification even if you don't realize it. Impatiently await the return of your show throughout the summer months, speculating in your head just exactly where that cliff hanger will go when the show returns.  How society watches TV now:  Choose a show on Netflix and watch for eight to ...

Social Media

Social media has changed our culture in a big way. Yes, of course everyone is staring at their phones as they walk. Yes, of course people are paying more attention to digital conversation over the actual conversation happening. Yes, of course more people are aware of what's going on in Kim Kardashian's life than what's going on in their own country . But what I'm talking about is how social media has influenced society through commercialism. It's changed marketing tactics for so many companies and encouraged a materialistic society more than ever. If you think about it, the amount of influencers that sell us products on any given day, you would see that my assumption of how this form of mass media influenced society is correct. " Influencers are the golden children of marketing strategies right now" (Weinswig, 2016). Go look in your pantry, your makeup bag, your closet, your car...is there anything in there purchased because someone you admire and re...
